Abstract

598,963. Tuning forks. MUIRHEAD & CO., Ltd., and SHORLAND, H. March 19, 1945, No. 6886. [Class 88 (ii)] In an electro-mechanical tuning fork of the valve maintained type, means are provided for varying the flux density in the magnetic circuit acting upon the tines of the fork in order to vary its frequency. The tuning fork 2 of magnetic material has two coils 3 with iron cores 4 polarized by magnets 5 associated with each of its tines. The permanent magnet 6 is rotated on shaft 7 or moved towards or away from the polarizing magnet 5, to vary the flux density in the air gap between the cores and the tine with which they are associated. A ganged rheostat is provided in the amplifier circuit feeding the driving coils to counteract the variation in output produced as the fork frequency changes and thus maintain the driving force substantially constant.
