Abstract

636,563. Tuning-forks. MUIRHEAD & CO., Ltd., TUCKER, E. W., and BELL, J. Sept. 25, 1947, No. 26021. [Class 88 (ii)] An electrically-maintained tuning-fork is provided with means for regulating the air-gap between the tines of the fork and the pole or poles of the maintaining magnet. A tuning- fork 2 is supported in a pot 1 and its tines 3 are subjected to vibrations by permanent magnet 6 having electrically energized pole-pieces 4 to vary the frequency of vibration. The left-hand pole-piece is adjustable by a cam 10 rotated by a graduated wheel 13 supported by bimetallic strips 16 which compensate for variations in temperature. The device may be used with a pick-up magnet system feeding an amplifier connected to the energizing magnets.
