Abstract

634,982. Galvanometers. COLLINS, G., and WRIGHT, Sir C. S. Feb. 16, 1946, No. 129. Divided out of 634,916, [Group XL (b)]. [Class 37] A moving coil instrument particularly suitable for use in the apparatus for analysing wave-forms described in Specification 634,914 or in the electromagnetic filter described in Specification 634,916, is provided with a granular magnetic dust core of material sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Gecalloy " and moving with the coil. As shown, a coil 20 having a dust core 21 of this material is clamped between phosphor-bronze strips 19 and mounted between the soft iron poles 30 and 31 of a permanent magnet system. These strips are supported by narrower screwtensioned strips 18 which pass around rollers 16 and 17. A mirror 22 is mounted on strip 19 for use with a known optical system. The system vibrates only when the input frequency to the coil is substantially the natural frequency of the coil assembly. This is stated to be of the order of 100 cycles per second.
