Abstract
691,841. Electromechanical impedances. PATELHOLD PATENTVERWERTUNGS & ELEKTRO-HOLDING AKT.-GES. Aug. 20, 1951 [Aug. 22, 1950], No. 19572/51. Class 40 (viii). A magnetostrictive four-terminal system comprises a magnetostrictivo rod 1 surrounded on each side of its central nodal point by a coil 6, the terminals of the coils forming the four terminals of the system, and the rod is supported at its central nodal point by being fixed in the centre of a disc 2, the edge of which is rigidly clamped, three non-magnetizable bolts 3 being connected to the rim of disc 2 and carrying end discs 5, and a bar permanent magnet 8 is provided to give a permanent magnetic bias to rod 1, while a shunt yoke 10 is included in the magnetic circuit to vary this bias. In the arrangement shown, this is effected by varying air gaps 12 at the ends of the yoke. In another arrangement variable airgaps may be provided at the ends of rod 1. The apparatus is surrounded by a casing 13 which may be two-part as shown, or one part Swiss. Specification 197,694 and U.S.A. Specification 1,750,124 are referred to.
