Abstract
577,482. Electromagnetic interrupters. ERICSSON TELEPHONES, Ltd., and DISTIN, L. S. Sept. 28, 1944, No. 18542. [Class 38 (v)] In an electromagnetic interrupter one or more moving contacts 11 are resiliently attached to a vibratory reed 1 and normally positioned by rigid buffer members 14 fixed to the reed. The arrangement shown comprises a pair of reeds 1, one situated behind the other, coupled near their free ends by the armature 4. The magnetic circuit consists of a polepiece 6, a yoke 7 and a member 8. A non-magnetic member 9 is provided for rigidity. Attached to one of the reeds is a contact spring 15 which engages with a contact screw 16. Contact is broken when the armature is attracted by the magnet polepiece, so that vibration of both reeds is maintained in the usual manner. Adjustable weights or nuts 21 attached to posts, which may be threaded, on the top of the reeds enable the frequency to be varied. In a modification each reed carries its own armature and while both reeds still have the same natural frequency, the one which carries the driving contact is stiffer and more heavily loaded than the other. The reeds may in this case be coupled by a light spring. Specification 556,990 is referred to.
