Abstract

767,424. Electric accelerometers. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Sept. 29, 1954 [Sept. 29, 1953], No. 28107/54. Class 40 (1). In an accelerometer the vibratory element is on the form of a tongue projecting freely from a base and operating an inductive or capacitative transmitter. As shown, Fig. 1, the free end of a tongue 4 secured to a base 3 is disposed between two coils 5, 5a connected as adjacent arms in an A.C. energized bridge circuit, Fig. 5 (not shown), which operates an oscilloscope, recorder, or other instrument. Each coil 5, 5a has a soft iron core6, 6a and yoke 7, 7a to inhance sensitivity and a screw adjustment 9 is provided for the coil 5. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the tongue is a U-sectioned beam 4a and carries at its free end a core consisting of magnetic end portions 10 separated by a non-ferrous portion 11. The core is normally centrally disposed within a double coil 12-13 connected in a bridge circuit similarly to the coils 5, 5a. The free end of the tongue or a plate carried thereby may alternatively move between two condenser plates. Damping of the tongue, if necessary, may be effected by filling the transmitter 'housing with oil, e.g. a silicone oil, or oil-gap damping means, Fig. 8 (not shown), may be used.
