Abstract

843,399. Transducers. INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS Inc. Oct. 17, 1956 [Oct. 26, 1955], No. 31600/56. Class 40 (4). A transducer is constructed to be screened from stray magnetic fields and has a balanced armature between two permanent magnets 10 and 12 like poles of which are connected by 0-shaped plates 14 and 16 to provide two flux gaps between the oppositely disposed surfaces 18, 22 and 20, 24, respectively, a vibrating reed 30 surrounded by a coil 35 being clamped between the surfaces 20, 24, and vibrating freely between the surfaces 18, 22. A dished plate 44 and a mounting plate 38 are secured to the transducer by bolts 56, 58. A cover may be secured on one side of the transducer and a diaphragm 62 and a cover-plate may be secured on the opposite side. A link 36 connects the reed 30 to the diaphragm and may be replaced by a stylus if the transducer is to be used as a reproducing head for a phonograph. The flux gaps may be shunted by strips 80, 82, which provide screening from stray magnetic fields and provide a low permeability path for A.C. flux. The apertures in the 0-shaped plates 14 and 16 are cross-shaped so that one arm of the cross forms a push fit mounting for the coil 35 and the ends of the other arm provide channels 50 and 52. The link 52 or a stylus lies in channel 52 while both channels provide access to the reed for strain adjustment. Specification 806,305 is referred to.
