Abstract
602,114. Gramophone pick-ups. SOUNDSCRIBER CORPORATION. Aug. 27, 1945, No. 21917. Convention date, Aug. 8, 1944. [Class 40 (iv)] In a moving coil gramophone pick-up, means secured to the magnetic frame restrain the rear of the armature which carries the coil from undesirable vertical vibrations. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a pair of Z-shaped magnetic frame members 11, 12 having polepieces 13, 14 are clamped to a magnet block 10. Between the polepieces is mounted an armature A preferably of plastic material, the square end lug 30 of which fits into an aperture in a front cushion member 21 mounted on the ends of the polepieces. The rear of the armature is supported by another cushion 23 fitted to one of the fixing screws of the members 11, 12. Mounted on the armature are a stylus 32 and the coil 37 with its iron core 38. Provision is also made for a " hum-bucking" coil 3 to be fitted on the armature to compensate for disturbance due to stray fields. A transverse brass wire 45 (Fig. 5), the ends of which are cemented to the members 11, 12, engages the rear cushion 23 and prevents undesirable vertical movement of the armature. This wire also maintains the central slit 28 of the cushion closed about the rear lug 31 of the armature. Specification 539,534, [Group XXXVIII], is referred to.
