Abstract

939,983. Gramophone pick-ups and recorders. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 2, 1960 [Feb. 14, 1959], No. 5197/59. Class 40 (4). An electromagnetic transducer such as a stereophonic disc cutter or pick-up comprises a coil assembly including a pair of coils 8, 9, preferably of D-shape, having portions 10, 11 disposed in a magnetic gap 6 in a plane perpendicular to the polar axis 7 of the gap, the portion 10 being angularly displaced with respect to the portion 11, the coil assembly being mounted for movement in any direction in the plane. The coils may be formed by printed circuitry and are insulated from one another, being held between two supporting discs 12, 13. The polepieces 4, 5 are fed from a permanent magnet 1 by soft iron limbs 2, 3. The coil assembly is rigidly secured to a stylus arm 17 passing through apertures 16. End 19 of the stylus arm is mounted in an elastic sleeve 20 mounted in a bore in the limb 3.
