Abstract
284,597. Vatinet, H. V. E., and Durand, C. Jan. 31, 1927, [Convention date]. Telephonic vibration-detectors.-Apparatus for detecting vibrations, such as noises due to abnormal operation of an engine &c., comprises an electrostatic or electromagnetic device with one element connected directly to the vibrating body, and the other so supported as to be unaffected by the vibrations. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus comprises a hollow casing 1 adapted to be screwed on to a stud on the engine &c., and carrying fixedly an armature 9 in the form of an adjustable screw. A permanent magnet with pole-pieces 5 and coils 6 is embedded in spongy rubber &c. 3 within the casing, with its poles adjacent the armature 9. The rubber packing is pressed down by a plate 11 and screws 12. Leads from the coils 6 pass through the casing to an amplifier 8 and telephones 14, or an oscillograph. A controlling resistance may be arranged in shunt to the amplifier input. Fig. 2 shows an electrostatic apparatus comprising an electrode 16 integrad with the casing 1 and an electrode 15 embedded in rubber &c. within the case.
