Abstract

1,121,436. Oscillating motors. HORSTMANN CLIFFORD MAGNETICS Ltd. 21 Sept., 1966 [15 Oct., 1965], No. 43783/65. Heading H2A. [Also in Division G3] An electromechanical oscillator comprises a tuning fork 11 forming part of a magnetic circuit having an air gap, whose length varies when the tines of the fork vibrate, and stationary means to polarize the magnetic circuit with stationary coils 17, 18 inductively coupled to the magnetic circuit and forming the input and output coils of an amplifier. As shown, a permanent magnet 19 provides the polarizing magnetic flux and polepieces 15, 16 are fixed to the ends of tines 12, 13. An escape wheel 20 is mounted in the air gap and has angularly displaced wavy magnetic tracks around each side to co-operate with the polepieces and produce rotation of the wheel. In a modification using an escape wheel with a magnetic track on only one face, the wheel is mounted for rotation on an axis perpendicular to the plane of the tines, Fig. 2 (not shown). The coils 17, 18 may be provided on only one tine and may be formed as a single tapped coil connected to the input and output of a single transistor amplifier.
