Abstract
598,365. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO. March 17, 1945, No. 6781. Convention date, March 17, 1944. [Class 74 (ii)] An enlargement 6 on the needle shank rema,ins below a needle loop 10 during normal knitting motions of the needle, but passes upwardly through, and so enlarges the loop when the needle is raised abnormally high. Any subsequent undesirable tendency for the loop to ride up the shank wilt be checked by the enlargement, and the loop, being loose on the shank, by reason of its passage over the enlargement, will drop down the shank again. The enlargement is on the hook side of the needle and clear of the latch at all times. The slope 7 is more abrupt than the slope 8. The invention is described in connection with a method of knitting involving drawing loops over the backs of sinkers 12, the sinkers being then withdrawn so that the loops pass over the nibs 13 to the sinker throats.
