Abstract

597,853. Generating combustion products under pressure. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and FORSLING, B. E. G. Oct. 19, 1945, No. 27469. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] The combustion chamber of a gas turbine is incorporated in the outlet header of a heatexchanger through which air is supplied to the chamber. The heat-exchanger 1 may be as described in Specification 597,852, [Group XIII], and the outlet header is formed as a cylinder 2. The combustion chamber comprises an outer tube 5 and a flame tube 9 united by lugs 10, 11 and joined to an end plate 13 by swirl-producing vanes 15. The header is connected to the turbine branch 8 by a pipe 7 formed with expansion corrugations 23, 24 and a tubular extension 6 of the combustion chamber is located in this pipe. The combustion chamber and extension are positioned by means of a plate 16 and lugs 19. The turbine branch 8 and exchanger header are tied together by external bolts 25. The cylinder 2 is provided with a ring baffle 20, which causes part of the air to pass to the holes 12 and around the extension 6, and a segmental baffle 21 which distributes the rest of the air around the combustion chamber in passing to the inlets 10 and 15. The whole construction is covered with a heat insulation 22. Specifications 538,956 and 541,845, [Group XXVI], also are referred to.
