[Also in Group XIII] A gas-turbine plant incorporates a heatexchanger (see Group XIII) comprising an annulus of elements 1 in each of which cold combustion-air is heated by turbine-exhaust gas. A carrier 13 supports each pair of elements and serves also to collect heated air leaving these elements. The carrier 13 contains a tube 32 into which fuel vapour mixed with a small amount of air is blown through a nozzle 33. Some of the heated air collected in the carrier 13 enters the tube 32 through holes provided at points 35 and the air-fuel mixture is distributed by pipes 36 over an inlet annulus of the combustion chamber which annulus comprises six groups of alternating honeycombed and vaned sections 37, 38 supported by corrugated member 39, each group leaving an associated fuel feed pipe 32. The air-fuel mixture from tube 32 flows through the honeycomb sections 37 and secondary air, comprising the remainder of the air collected in carriers 13, flows through the vaned sections 38. The combustion chamber, which is not shown in the drawing, is formed by extensions of the walls 40a, 40b of the inlet annulus of vaned and honeycombed sections 37, 38 which, in addition to mixing and distributing evenly the air and fuel, serve also as a flame trap to prevent damage to the heat-exchanger.
