Abstract
1300508 Heat exchangers MITA GUDMAND-HOYER [trading as DAN-FIBE-ENERGY] 19 April 1971 [16 March 1970] 24096/71 Heading F4A [Also in Division F1] An apparatus for producing hot fluids comprises a heat exchanger including a burner M, Fig. 1, having inlets 1 and 2 for fuel and primary combustions air and an inlet in the form of a mushroom-shaped body 5 for secondary combustion air, the stream of fuel and primary air and the stream of secondary air being directed axially against one another, at a perforated heat-resistant screen 3 as shown, so as to be deflected radially to form a substantially annular flame in slit 6. The heat exchanger comprises an inner combustion gas channel I having one end adjacent the body 5 and the other end communicating with one end of an outer combustion gas channel J whose other end extends over the body 5 and communicates with an outlet K; a space B for fluid to be treated is formed between the inner and outer channels and is in communication with a further space for fluid to be heated within the inner wall of the channel I. The several fluid spaces are coaxial and are preferably spherical, although they may be cylindrical. The inner fluid space may be divided into a liquid chamber E and a steam chamber G by an inclined partition N having flow passages 7, 8 at its upper and lower ends. In Fig. 2 (not shown) a pot burner is used and the shield 3 dispensed with, the secondary air passing up centrally through the apparatus to the body 5. The apparatus may be embodied in a hot gas engine, Fig. 3, in which a working fluid such as helium is heated in channels 20, 21 and cooled in chamber R, being used to drive pistons 22, 23 back and forth with respect to one another. There is a thin plate regenerator S.
