Abstract

728,334. Hot gas engines. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. April 23, 1953 [April 26, 1952], No. 11214/53. Class 7(1). [Also in Group XIII] In a hot gas engine as claimed in claim 1 of Specification 708,199 (referred to) the cylinders and the regenerators and coolers, the latter forming independent units, are arranged substantially in the form of an annulus, each cylinder being situated between two regenerator and cooler units one of which is associated with the hot space in this cylinder through a heater comprising a plurality of juxtaposed elements grouped together. In Fig. 1 the cylinder 2 is shown in section and encloses a piston 13. Also shown in section are the regenerator 15 and cooler 16 in the casing 6. The space 14 above the piston 13 is connected through the heater pipes 10 to the regenerator 15 and the cooler 16 is connected through a passage 17 to the space below the piston in the cylinder 3. The space 18 below the piston 13 is connected through a passage 19 with the regenerator in the casing 5 associated with the heater pipes 9. Other cylinders are indicated at 1 and 4 and other regenerators and coolers are enclosed in the casings 7 and 8. The pistons operate either a swash plate or a crankshaft. Baffle plates 22 are fitted in association with the heater pipes. Gases from a burner 21 leave through apertures 24. The Specification refers to use of flame guides internally and/or externally of groups of pipes.
