Abstract
Vinyl chloride is produced by passing acetylene and hydrochloric acid at elevated temperature over mercuric vanadate. Active carbon may be successively impregnated with solutions of ammonium metavanadate and mercuric chloride to give a catalyst containing 10 per cent of mercuric vanadate which is employed at about 100 DEG C.
