Abstract

Acetone, present in amounts of up to 6% by weight, is removed from aqueous solutions of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol by azeotropic distillation with benzene to give pure 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol. The process is applicable to the aqueous solutions of methylbutynol obtained by the reaction of acetone and acetylene. Examples are provided.
