Abstract

Bromochlorodifluoromethane is prepared by reacting bromine with chlorodifluoromethane in a molar ratio of at least 1.7:1 at a temperature above 550 DEG C. In the example the reaction is carried out in a tube of sintered aluminium oxide, dibromodifluoromethane and bromodifluoromethane being formed as by-products. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 713,522.
