Abstract

594,261. Printing-machines. ARMSTRONG, J. W. June 13, 1945, No. 14975. [Class 100 (ii)] A box-wheel drive for the cylinders of a multi-colour rotary printing-machine is constructed with a balanced worm. coupling between the driving sleeve 12, Fig. 3, and the driven gear 11 which drives each printing-roller 33 coacting with a bowl 32, Fig. 4. The sleeve 12 is formed integral with a worm wheel 17 engaged by a pair of worms 18 mounted in diametrically opposed bearings on the gear 11. The worms 18 are driven by worms 21 and worm wheels 22, and the shaft of the worms 21 is driven by worm gearing from a central shaft which can be driven by a D.C. motor 15 when it is desired to adjust the drive to the printing- rollers 33. The motor 15 is controlled by slip rings 16 and push buttons.
