Abstract
572,293. Printing-machines. HADDAN, R. (Duplex Printing Press Co.). March 15, 1944, No. 4842. [Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] Inking-apparatus.-The fountain rollers of printing-presses are adapted to be driven in the same direction, whether the drive shaft actuated by the press is driven in one or the other direction. To effect this, the shaft 14 which drives the fountain roller by means of a sprocket 19 and a chain is driven from a shaft 4, Fig. 2, driven by the press, and the shaft 4 drives a clutch ring 20x by means of sprockets 9, 23 and a chain 33, and a clutch ring 20y by means of gears 11, 27. The sprocket 23 and gear 27 rotate in opposite directions, but the clutch rings 20x, 20y have tapered peripheral recesses all inclined in the same direction and adapted to transmit motion to the clutch member 20 in the same direction, so that for one direction .of rotation of the drive shaft 4 motion is transmitted by the sprocket 23, and for the other direction motion is transmitted by the gear 27. The form of gears which transmit motion to the clutch rings may be varied.
