Abstract
592,156. Raising liquids by gas pressure. POLOUEKTOFF, J. P. May 23, 1945, No. 12878. Convention date, June 7, 1944. [Class 102 (ii)] Apparatus for raising liquids by gas pressure comprises a chamber 3 within a vessel 1 and forming an annular chamber 4 of approximately the same volume as the chamber 3. Liquid from the inlet 7 is admitted to the two chambers through inlet valves that may be in the form of rubber balls and forced out through valves of similar construction through a pipe connected to the space 5 above the chambers and the outlet 10. The chambers 3 and 4 are alternatively exposed to pressure and suction on the delivery and suction side of an air compressor by a slide valve 20 that is actuated by a piston 29 controlled by a valve 32 connected to a bridle 33. As the water in chamber 3 rises, a float 34 is raised until it abuts the stop 37 to raise the bridle 33 to move the valve 20 to admit air under pressure to the chamber 3 and open the chamber 4 to exhaust. The catches 37b engage a stop to retain the bridle in that position until the float falls to first disengage the catches and then abut the stop 36 to move the bridle down to connect the chamber 3 to the suction of the compressor and the chamber 4 to air under pressure. The pressure of the air to the valve 20 is controlled by a valve 47 adjusted by the bellows 52 that are subjected to the delivery pressure, the air pressure and a counterweight 53.
