Abstract

199,474. Abrahams, L. J. March 24, 1922. Direct air - pressure apparatus, automatic. - Liquid is forced out of a submerged tank (not shown) to a discharge pipe 3 by compressed air or other gas supplied by a pipe 5 to a pipe 4 leading to the tank and exhausted through a pipe 6. The valves 8, 9 controlling the inlet and outlet respectively of the gas are coaxial with a piston 20 moved by the liquid discharged, and are connected therewith by a spring 22. The rate of movement of the valves 8, 9 is adjusted by means of a dash-pot 16 with an adjustable outlet, and the valves are held up, with the outlet valve open, by means of a piston 13 subject to the exhaust pressure, until that pressure falls. Throttle valves 24, 28 are provided in the gas pipes.
