Abstract

210,228. McGinn, J. St. L. Dec. 4, 1922. Fluid-actuated valves.-A tidal air-compressing plant comprises a basin A, Fig. 1, filled through a valved inlet 4, and emptied through a V-shaped conduit 5, having an enlargement 17 disposed in the basin. The enlargement supports a number of air chambers 18 provided with ducts 21, and with nozzles 22, Fig. 5, projecting into the water passages. Air entrained by the descending water is separated therefrom in a chamber 8, which is connected with a storage chamber 15 and with a service chamber or tank 13. In order to keep the air pressure in the tank 13 constant, a valve 30 is acted on by a weight 36, Fig. 6, and by connections from a piston 32 subject to the pressure in the tank. The conduit 5 is provided with a gate 50 connected to a spider 151 of a float 51, caused to rise or fall by the admission or exhaust of air.
