Abstract

591,573. Forced-draught apparatus. WHITTAKER, W., and WORTHINGTON, J. V. May 14, 1945, No. 12008. [Class 51 (i)] Forced draught for a Lancashire or similar type of boiler is supplied through a pressure box B and a short connecting duct F by a screw type fan, fixed to the horizontal spindle of an electric motor J housed in the outer end of the fan casing H. The latter does not project beyond the periphery of the boiler and may be supported from the boiler front, furnace front or floor. Two dampers L, M are provided in the short connecting duct which is bolted or welded to the side of the pressure box fitted to the ashpit. The damper M is connected by means of a link mechanism N' to the spindle O of the firedoor so as to close as the door is opened ; the second damper L is operated by a hand lever L' to regulate the supply of air. Regulation of the air supply may be otherwise obtained by using a variable-speed fan motor.
