Abstract
692,046. Circulating furnace atmospheres. WRIGHTON, F. E., and AIR CONTROL INSTALLATIONS, Ltd. Oct. 4, 1951 [Oct. 18, 1950], No. 25413/50. Class 51(ii) In a forced convection furnace of the type comprising a fan within and spaced away from the inner face of a wall of the furnace, a driving motor disposed outside the furnace and a shaft connecting the motor with the fan and extending through an opening in the wall of the furnace, and a heat resisting shroud encircling the fan and also spaced away from said inner face so as to direct a stream of heated atmosphere away from the fan into the furnace, which stream eventually finds it way back through a gap between the shroud and the furnace wall to the suction side of the fan, the fan 10 is spaced from the inner face of the roof 11 which is formed with an opening 13 larger than said fan and shaped to provide a countersunk shoulder 14 on which rests the flange 15 of a cusp-shaped refractory sleeve 16 encircling the fan shaft 17. The latter is journaled in bearings 19, 20 carried on a framework 21 and has a cooling fan 26 disposed outside the furnace partially in the cavity 18 formed by the sleeve 16. The cylindrical refractory sleeve 12 encircles the fan and extends downwardly into the furnace.
