Abstract
590,093. Lifting-cradles. WELLS, J. E. April 11, 1945, No. 9010. [Class 78(iv)] A lifting-cradle provided with means for automatically discharging its load, comprises a framework 10 with a platform 14 suspended from a crane or other hoisting device by a rope 30 anchored at 31 and passing over pulleys 29, 26, 27, 28, the pulley 29 being mounted on a spring-controlled plunger 16 to which is secured a pusher-plate 17, the plunger being held in its retracted position by a pin 20 extending through holes in the framework 10 and the plunger. Sacks 33 to be transported are supported on blocks 34 and the suspended device is guided so as to pass the platform 14 under the bottom sack. The device is then lifted by the crane and transferred to the place at which it is desired to discharge the sacks. The pin 20 is now withdrawn so that when a vertical pull is again exerted on the rope by the crane the plunger 16 moves forward and the plate 17 pushes the sacks off the platform. Alternatively, if the sacks at the side remote from the plate were touching a fixed vertical surface, the sacks would remain stationary and the platform withdrawn from under the sacks. The pin 20 may be manipulated by hand or operated electrically or mechanically. Ballast 32 maintains the platform in a substantially horizontal position.
