Abstract
702,716. Mine cage supports. QUALTER, HALL & CO. (SALES), Ltd., and HITCHIN, H. Jan. 8, 1952, No. 681/52. Class 78 (3) A mine cage is supported whilst being loaded by adjustable means independent of the cage hoisting means and adapted to be engaged with the cage and to raise it to offset stretch in the winding rope so that rails or a platform thereon are in line with those on the loading platform. A rectangular framework 5 is suspended by a cable 8 running over pulleys 9 and connected to a double acting hydraulic ram 10 positioned adjacent the loading platform. The ram is connected to a further cable 11 passing over pulley 12 secured to shaft 13 carrying two pulleys 14 (not shown) from which are suspended counter-balanced weights 15. The hydraulic ram 10 may be replaced by an electric motor driving the pulley shaft 13. Arm supports or keps 6 pivoted on the frame are moved by cams 21, when the frame 5 is raised into a position to support the cage 7. The cage is then lifted, by the hydraulic ram or motor until the rails 22 are in line with rails 23 on the loading platform. When the bottom deck of the cage has been loaded, the frame 5 is lowered to allow the cage to be supported by its winding rope which is then lowered and the frame 5 is again lifted so that the keps 6 engage under the second deck of the cage 7 and the rails 24 and 23 are aligned. When the loading of all the decks is complete, the frame 5 is again lowered to disengage the keps 6 and the cage is supported by its winding rope and raised to the surface.
