Abstract

776,002. Fluid pressure apparatus; guided platform hoists; tail board loaders. BURTONWOOD ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Aug. 8, 1955 [Aug. 24, 1954], No. 24621/54. Classes 78 (2) 78 (3) and 78 (4). A device for raising and lowering loads comprises a platform movable along fixed vertical guides by a horizontally disposed hydraulic ram which is operatively connected with the platform by a pair of chains or cables attached to opposite ends of the platform and to a fixed anchorage. Vertical box section members 4, 5 are mounted on longitudinals 1, 2 of a lorry chassis by means of a channel 3, and form guides for sliders 10, 11 (Fig. 4) to which the lorry tail board (not shown) is detachably attached. An hydraulic ram 31, housed in channel 3, carries pulleys 21, 30 which co-operate with cables 12, 13 extending over a system of pulleys from fixed anchorages at 22 to the sliders 10, 11. The arrangement is such that extension of the ram by an hydraulic system driven from the lorry engine and controlled by a manually operated valve, raises the tail board from the ground to the level of the lorry floor. In a modification (Figs. 7-12, not shown) the pulley system and guides are constructed so that the tail board can be elevated to the level of a second lorry floor and hydraulic jacks are provided at the rear of the lorry for relieving the springs when the loader is in operation. In a further modification (not shown) the elevator is rigidly attached to a static machine, e.g. a moulding press. Specification 647,075 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
