[Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] A drum carrying attachment for lift trucks having a horizontally disposed frame mounted on the load elevating mechanism for raising and lowering drums characterized in that the frame is of reticulated construction providing a plurality of compartments each of which is adapted to receive a drum to be transported and that means are provided within each of said compartments operable upon an upward movement of said frame for gripping the drums therein as the frame is elevated by the lift truck mechanism and that means are also provided for rendering said last means inoperative when the drums are to be released. A frame 13 has compartments for receptacles formed by cross members 14, 15 and is attached to the rear of a lift truck 10 by which it may be raised and lowered. The frame has cut-out parts 19 to allow positioning of the drums 17. Each compartment has two wedges 18 situated at diagonally opposite corners to grip the drum. The wedges 18 slide on plates 23 and are connected by a bolt to the piston of a hydraulic cylinder which has a bottom rounded part to allow pivotal movement. Operation of the cylinder by admitting fluid through a pipe 20 raises the wedge to the out of use position, the reduction of pressure allows the wedge to move under gravity to the gripping position. An overhanging bracket on the upper edge of the frame engages a guide rail on the lifting unit and a pair of spaced vertically extending links are connected at the upper end to the lifting unit and at the lower end to the frame so that the frame may swing transversely to a limited extent.
