[Class 78 (iii)] In a hydraulic lift for elevating vehicles during servicing cover plates 2 mounted in the platform floor recesses are adapted to be raised and to lie flush with the floor when the platforms are raised and to be lowered into the recesses when the platforms are lowered. Each recess has a cover plate 2 mounted upon pivotal links 3 which have a toggle action and pass over the dead centre position when the plates are raised and engage the end of the recess. The links 3 are carried upon shafts 4 mounted in bearing brackets 5 and carrying short arms 6 pivotally connected to the bifurcated end of a hydraulic ram 8. The cylinder 9 of the ram is pivoted. The working fluid under pressure is led to each cylinder 9 by a pipe and flexible connection. The platforms or runways of the lift are provided with a cam or the like 13, adapted to engage a runner 14 associated with the cover plates. When the lift is lowered the cam enters a cut-out 15 in the cover plate 2 and causes the cover plate and its link 3 to ride over the dead-centre position and be forced or lowered into the recess beneath the platform and runways of the lift.
