Abstract

723,857. Lift trucks. RANSOMES, SIMS & JEFFERIES, Ltd., and RAYMENT, E. W. Dec. 15, 1953 [Dec. 22, 1952], No. 32473/52. Class 78 (3). In a lift truck provided with hydraulicallyactuated grab arms 20, 22 the cylinder 15 of the ram which effects raising and lowering of the arms acts as an accumulator for the grab arm actuating rams 18, 19 so that the arms continue to grip the load if a leak develops in the hydraulic circuit feeding rams 18, 19. The rams are fed from a reservoir 10 via a pump 9, a pressure relief and non-return valve 12 and a pair of manually-operated rotary valves 7, 31; whilst fluid is returned to the reservoir by pipes 16 and 37. A by-pass 41 connects the ram 15 with the inner ends of rams 18, 19 through a non-return valve 42 which, when ram 15 is under load and the pressure in rams 18, 19 is less than the pressure in ram 15, allows fluid to flow from pipe 14 to the rams 18, 19 sustaining the grip on the load; but which closes whenever the reverse condition arises and so prevents raising of the load by operation of the grab arm control valve 31. Figs. 2-6 (not shown), illustrate the construction and mounting of the valves which are arranged coaxially on a fixed part on the truck.
