Abstract

<PICT:0589979/IV/1> Apparatus for advancing and spacing artificial filaments and threads during the application of treatments to them, comprises a supporting member such as a rod or roller and a rotatable cage comprising two end-plates connected by a number of rods or bars of equal length, flexibly attached thereto, each of the end-plates being adapted to rotate about an axis perpendicular to itself, the axes of the end-plates being parallel or nearly parallel to each other, but not collinear, there being common planes tangential to the supporting member and the cage which are substantially perpendicular to the plane containing the end-plate axes. The supporting member may be of similar construction to the cage, but the axes of the end-plates may be collinear. The rods or bars 7 may have reduced and flattened ends mounted in rubber seatings. In order to effect stretching of the advancing filament 8, the cages may be generally conical, the axis of the smaller end-plate 16 then making a greater angle with respect to the line joining the points of intersection of the axles with the respective end-plates than that made by the axle of the larger end-plate 15. To facilitate looping of the thread filament, the cage may be supported from one end only on a stationary cantilever shaft bent to meet the end-plates at right angles. Collars attached to the end-plates may be driven by a common belt.
