Abstract

An apparatus for treating artificial filaments, threads, yarns or ribbons with liquids comprises a U-tube which has a flexible portion, so that it may be made substantially straight to receive the filaments, &c., and then formed to a U-shape to hold the treating liquid, means being provided to feed the filaments, &c., into the U-tube and to receive them as they leave. The U-tube may consist of non-flexible tubes joined by ball or knee joints, or it may comprise two vertical non-flexible tubes of about the same length joined by a flexible portion, or it may be entirely flexible. The filaments &c. are introduced into the tube when the latter is straight and may be washed through the tube with any suitable liquid. Thereafter, the tube is made U-shaped and supplied with treating liquid, and the filaments, &c., are advanced therethrough by means of the feeding and receiving devices. The liquid may flow either counter- or concurrently to the filaments, &c. The treating liquid may be used for rinsing, impregnating, washing, stabilizing, hardening or coagulating, and a stretching treatment may be applied to the filaments, &c., during treatment in the tube.ALSO:An apparatus for treating threads with liquids comprises a U-tube which has a flexible portion, so that it may be made substantially straight to receive the thread and then formed to a U-shape to hold the treating liquid, thread-advancing means being provided to feed the thread into the U-tube and receive it as it leaves. The U-tube may consist of non-flexible tubes joined by ball or knee joints, or it may comprise two vertical non-flexible tubes of about the same length joined by a flexible portion, or it may be entirely flexible. The thread is introduced into the tube when the latter is straight and may be washed through the tube with any suitable liquid. Thereafter the tube is made U-shaped and supplied with treating liquid, and the thread is advanced therethrough by means of the thread-advancing devices. The liquid may flow either counter-or concurrently to the thread. The treating liquid may be used for dyeing or bleaching.
