Abstract

A continuous tow of artificial filaments is treated as described in the parent Specification and one or more streams of gas are introduced into the treating bath below the accumulated tow so that bubbles of the gas rise through the liquid and through the mass of convolutions of the tow. Air bubbles may be introduced into the bath by a system of interconnected perforated tubes arranged below one of the supports described in the parent Specification and connected to a compressed air supply. Alternatively the system of tubes may form the support for the tow. The movement of the gas bubbles through the liquid improves the buoyancy of the tow, in some cases to such an extent that it is possible to dispense with a support for the tow and to support the tow in the liquid, and at the same time maintain a free liquid space below the tow, by the air bubbles alone. In addition the gas bubbles serve to circulate the bath and ensure a more even treatment of the tow, thus rendering it unnecessary to provide additional means for circulating the bath liquid such as that shown in Fig. 1 of the parent Specification.ALSO:In the apparatus for the treatment of a continuous tow of textile material as described in the parent Specification means are provided for introducing one or more streams of gas into the treating bath below the accumulated tow so that bubbles of the gas rise through the liquid and through the mass of convolutions of the tow. Air bubbles may be introduced into the bath from a system of interconnected perforated tubes arranged below one of the supports described in the parent Specification, and connected to a compressed air supply. In addition the gas bubbles serve to circulate the bath and ensure a more even treatment of the tow, thus rendering it unnecessary to provide additional means for circulating the bath, liquid such as that shown in Fig. 1 of the parent Specification.
