Abstract

655,403. Drying-apparatus. WAGHORN, H. W. (Aktiebolaget Pluria). Sept. 18, 1947, No. 25490. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 29, 1948.] [Class 34(ii)] Apparatus for drying granules, threads or fibres with steam comprises a closed circulating system including a container for the material, a circulating pump for the steam and a separator for removing the liquid carried along by the drying medium, the steam being heated by the heat developed by the work of the circulating pump during the circulation of the steam through the system. As shown, a container 1, which has supports therein for the material, is connected with a conduit 3, a separator 4 having a liquid discharge 5, a circulating pump 6 and a conduit 7 from which issues a conduit 8 having a valve 9 for the discharge of surplus steam from the system. Air may be forced out of the apparatus by supplying steam, nitrogen or other medium through a conduit 10 with valve 11 connected with the conduit 3. The supports, within the container, may be a double-walled cylinder 12 or hollow tubes for bobbins and are perforated and so arranged that the steam passes through the material from the outside inwardly. The drying steam is pumped continuously around the circuit, liquid water being removed by the separator and excess steam through the conduit 8 until drying is complete which is indicated by a rise in temperature of the steam.
