Abstract
<PICT:0367223/IV/1> The process of stretch - spinning of the parent Specification, according to which the thread after leaving the spinning funnel is first stretched mechanically and is then wound on a collecting device running at a peripheral speed somewhat less than that of the stretching roller, is modified by applying the hardening liquid after the thread has been permitted to shrink. Operating in this manner, threads of both high tensile strength and high elasticity are obtained. The apparatus used consists of a spinning funnel 1, guide-rods 3, 12 of small diameter and preferably of Monel metal, a tension rod 13 of larger diameter and of porcelain, glass or other friction material, a stretching roller 5 made up of a series of glass or porcelain rods 15, a rod 16 which assists in the removal of thread from the stretching roller, a porcelain guide 4 to which acid or salt hardening liquid is supplied, and finally a reel 11 which may be one of a row and on to which the thread may be delivered by reciprocating the guide 4.
