652,974. Thread-advancing reels. COURTAULDS, Ltd. Nov. 19, 1948, No. 30089. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1947. [Class 120(ii)] A thread-advancing reel for carrying out a number of processing operations on threads comprises one concentrically mounted reel member 10 having a periphery of longitudinal bars 11 extending continuously for the length of the reel, and at least three eccentrically mounted reel members 23, 24. 25 arranged in end-to-end relationship and having bars 27, 28, 29 which co-operate with the bars 11 to advance the thread over the surface of the reel, the axes of the members 23, 24, 25 supported on skew bearings 32, 37, 38 being so arranged that over some sections of the reel the thread is advanced in helical turns so closely spaced as to enable a processing liquid to blanket the turns of thread so that over the remaining section or sections, which are preferably shorter in length, the pitch of the thread helix is so increased that the liquid blanket is destroyed thereby confining each treating liquid to its own processing section. The shaft 15 which drives the reel member 10 is operated through a slip-clutch 53, 54. Specifications 413,414, 652,975 and U.S.A. Specification 2,167,662 are referred to.
