652,976. Thread-advancing reels. COURTAULDS, Ltd. Nov. 19, 1948, No. 30091. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1947. [Class 120(ii)] A thread-advancing reel for carrying out a number of processing operations on threads including at least one shrinking or stretching operation, comprises a concentrically mounted reel member 10 having a periphery formed by a number of bars 14 extending for the length of the reel, together with a number of eccentrically mounted reel members 11. 12 arranged in end-to-end relationship and having bars 15, 16 which co-operate with the bars 14 to advance the thread over the surface of the reel, the diameter of the reel being varied over at least one part of its length so that the advancing thread is either shrunk or stretched. The member 10 is driven through a shaft 18, gear 40 and a slipping clutch device and, in turn, drives the members 11, 12 which are carried upon sleeves 30, 31 arranged eccentrically and askew with respect to the axis of the shaft 18. The contacting faces of the sleeves 30, 31 with the reel-carrying support 27 and spacing collar 38 are serrated in order that they may be locked together by the collar 39 and set screw 49 in any desired position.
