Abstract
652,977. Thread advancing reels. COURTAULDS, Ltd. Nov. 19, 1948, No. 30092. Convention date, Nov. 21, 1947. [Class 120(ii)] A thread-advancing reel for carrying out a number of processing operations on threads comprises one reel member 10 concentrically mounted on a shaft 16 and having a periphery made up of bars 13 extending for the length of the reel, together with a number of eccentrically mounted reel members 11, 12, mounted in end-toend relationship along the shaft 16 but so that they rotate on axes offset and askew in relation to the shaft 16, the members 11, 12 having bars 23, 24 co-operating with the bars 13 to advance the thread over the surface of the reel, the axes of consecutive eccentrically-mounted reel members, e.g. B B and B<1> B<1> or B<1> B<1> and B" B", interesecting substantially on a radial line joining the centre of the shaft 16 to the point at which the thread is transferred from one of the reel members to the succeeding reel member. The bars 23, 24 of adjacent eccentric members 11, 12 may be oppositely tapered at their contiguous positions or provided with interengaging tongues and indentations to facilitate the transfer of the thread. The shaft 16 is driven through a slipping clutch comprising spring-pressed balls 55, and the adjacent faces of the eccentrics 28, 34, upon which the members 11, 12 are mounted, and the spacing member 45, may be serrated so that the reel members may be locked together by a collar 46 and screw 47 when set in a particular position.
