Abstract

945,296. Overload slip clutches. G. L. HALL. April 27, 1960 [April 18, 1959], No. 13301/59. Heading F2C. An overload slip clutch comprises pawls 9 slidable outwardly in radial slots in a driving disc 5 into engagement with grooves 13 in a driven drum 10. The pawls are cammed outwardly into engagement with the grooves by an axially movable adjustably spring-pressed plunger 16 acting on the shaped inner ends of the pawls 9. The leading and trailing edges 12 of the pawls are bevelled at suitable angles and co-operate with correspondingly shaped sides of the grooves so that the pawls yield on overload. The clutch may be disengaged manually by a push-rod 23 which abuts the plunger 16 and which projects from a hollow driving-shaft 7 fast with the disc 5.
