650,391. Presses for separating liquids from solids. FARRAR BOILERWORKS, Ltd., and PALMER, J. E. April 26, 1948, No. 11346. [Class 46] In a screw extrusion press having a conduit made up of bars, rings or the like, at least some of the bars or the like have grooves in the outer surface and holes in the bases of the grooves. The conduit may be built up of axial bars in the manner described and illustrated in Specification 625,134, or built up of rings, or of one or more helically disposed bars. A longitudinal bar 3, Figs. 6, 7, has one or more grooves 11 in its outer surface with a number of holes 14 drilled through the bottom. When helically-disposed bars are provided, they may be grooved and drilled as shown in Fig. 9, the pitch of the bars being preferably the same as that of the screw. The spacing and/or size of the holes may in each case vary along the length of the conduit, and the grooves may be formed in all the bars or rings. Specification 415,305 also is referred to.
