Abstract
589,440. Smallarms. JOHNSON, M. M. Oct. 10, 1944, No. 19474. [Class 119] The magazine support MS, Fig. 3, is carried in a cutaway in the depending flanges of the receiver R and is so designed that the magazine M can be loaded in situ. The hinged closure 13 normally guides the cartridges C into position to be picked up by the bolt, but may be pushed down, against the pressure of the spring 18<1>, to enable cartridges to be inserted, either singly or from a clip CC which may be presented to the charger guide CG. The magazine, Fig. 11, has longitudinal depressions 73, 74, to serve as cartridge guides, and a detent 53 to retain the cartridges when the magazine is out of the support. The lugs 56 of the detent ride up the inclined surfaces 58 when che magazine is inserted in the support and snap into the notches 59 to hold the magazine in position. A pivoted spring loaded lever 62 is provided to raise the detent in order to withdraw the magazine. The magazine support is held in the gun by projections which engage with the receiver R and the subframe described in Specification 587,368 and can be removed after sliding the subframe backwards.
