Abstract

7549. Young, F. K., and Automatic Firearms Co. March 31. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Consists in providing an automatic gun with a singleloading attachment for use when the magazine is cut off, comprising a cartridge holder into which a cartridge is inserted by hand after each shot, and which positions the cartridge so that it is automatically loaded into the barrel by the forwardly moving breech-block. In the construction shown, the holder comprises a spring clip 25 pivoted at the side of the action body. The cartridge therein rests on the top of the bolt-actuating sleeve 5, the holder being raised slightly against the pressure of a spring 33. When the breech is opened, the holder is depressed slightly by its spring 33, as shown in Fig. 6, so that the base of the cartridge is caught by the forwardly-moving breech-block. The holder can be turned up out of use and retained in this position by its spring 33.
