Abstract

589,307. Latches. SPOONER, R. A. Dec. 30, 1944, No. 26184. [Class 44] In a latch of the type in which the head of the latch bolt may be withdrawn from the latch casing against spring pressure and turned through 180 degrees to reverse the hand of the latch, a key-slot is formed in the casing to position a key adjacent the tail end of the bolt head and clear of the runner plate on which the said bolt head is slidably and rotatably mounted, so that the bit of the key can press the tail with the head thereon outwardly from the casing. In Fig. 1, a runner plate 1 slidably mounted in a casing 2 is retracted by a rotatable follower 15 against a spring 14. A bolt head 4 is pressed against a projection 3 on the plate by a spring 7 mounted on the tail 5 of the bolt head between the projection and a head 6 on the end of the tail. A key 9, which passes through a cutaway portion of the plate, pivots in a hole 10 in the casing to press upon the head 6 and eject the bolt head from the casing. In Fig. 3, the tail 17 is slidably mounted in a sleeve 19, which is itself slidably mounted in a fixed projection 24 in the casing. A light spring 21 is mounted on the sleeve between the bolt head 4a and the said projection, and a stronger spring 23 is mounted on the tail between a head 18 on the end of the tail and a collar 20 on the end of the sleeve. A projection 25 on the runner plate 26 engages the sleeve between the collar and the fixed projection. The key-slot 27 is provided.
