Padlocks; locks, screw.-The shackle or equivalent member of a lock is clamped by key-operated means between the two relatively movable cheeks of a partiallv split socket member,one of the cheeks constituting the lock casing. As shown, the part a of a ring lock is split at a' to form cheeks c, c', between which the ends c<2> of the shackle b, hinged to the part a at b<1>, is adapted to be clamped by means of the key-operated screw f, rotatably mounted in the lock case d and screwing into a hole in the cheek c<1>. The opposed surfaces of the cheeks c, c<1>, and the end c<2> of the shackle b may be formed with ridges and depressions 1, 2. A flange g on the screw f, situated between the bottom g<1> of the lock case and a tubular socket h, is provided with a radial slot o<1> in which a projection o on'the bit j<1> of the key i engages when the barrel of the key passes over the part k on the screw. The key-bit j<1> is also provided with a recess n so positioned as to allow the key, when properly inserted, to be turned past a pin m on the lock case.
