Portable locks; padlocks; stud-and-eye fastenings; keys; bayonet-joint fastenings.-A portable locking-device comprises two separable parts, such as a, d, Figs. 2, 3, and 9 or n, o, Fig. 6, which are secured together by inserting in a key-hole slot in the parts when engaged with one another, a double sleeve member g, h, Fig. 4, by means of a key m, which is not separable from the member until one sleeve has been turned at an angle to the other. In this position, the key can be removed, the member g, h being retained in the keyhole slot. Spring-controlled tumbler pins actuated by zig-zag grooves on the key serve to lock the sleeve parts in relative position. In a portable lock for railway wagons, a headed stem a, b, Fig. 2, is formed with a square end c, adapted to enter a square hole in a block d, Fig. 3, in which it is secured by the sleeve member, which is introduced through a keyhole, slot f in the head d and passes through a corresponding hole in the part c, terminating in an enlargement which permits the sleeve h to turn so that the bit thereon passes behind the cut-away part i of the squared part c. Fig. 9 shows a modification in which, after the stem a has been introduced into the block d and turned on its axis so that the head a is supported by a shoulder in bayonet-joint fashion, it is locked against rotation by the sleeve g, h, forcible separation being resisted by the head. Fig. 6 shows the application to a padlock the shackle n of which is locked to the casing o by the introduction of a two-part sleeve as before.
