588,248. Slicing-machines. AITCHISON, D. May 7, 1945, No. 10786/44. [Class 28 (ii)] In a gravity feed slicer with horizontal disc knife 2; the substance to be sliced is positively held against plates 9 and 10 by sliding a clamp plate 41 up against the substance. The plate 41 which may be curved is carried by hooks 40 hooked over the middle cross bar of a frame 37 attached to pull rods 34 supported in guides 35 on the back of the plate 9. The plate 41 is locked in adjusted position by a spring pivoted latch 44 engaging one of the notches 34a on the middle pull rod 34. For cutting the last slice another plate 43 is similarly hooked to the frame 37 and bears down on the substance during cutting. The complete substance holder is mounted on a transverse bar 8 slidable to and from the cutter disc 2 on guide rails 4. An adjustable tray 6 then supports the substance and determines the slice thickness.
