Abstract
588,867. Bread &c. slicers. GAFFNEY, W. Feb. 12, 1945, No. 3507. [Class 28 (ii)] In a bread &c. slicer, with spaced guide hoops 18 for a hand knife and having a table 11 to rest the bread and a movable stop 15a to adjust the sfice thickness, an abutment plate 23 is provided to facilitate cutting off the last slice. The device comprises a pair of upstanding slides 12 supporting the table 11, the sides being curled at 17 to receive the ends of the knife guide hoops 18. The table 11 is formed with a trough 13 on the inner end to receive a wood block to protect the knife edge after cutting through a slice. The slice thickness gauge comprises a stop flange 15a on a slidable plate 15 the other end of which is flanged down at 15c carrying a nut engaged by a screwed spindle 19 having a milled head 21 abutting against the flange 11a of the table, whereby adjustment is effected. An alternative support for the cutting of the last slice comprises a detachable plate with a handle and curved over to slide down on the guide hoops 18. The abutment plate 23 is hinged to the stop 15a and normally lies down at an angle to provide a chute for the cut slices but for the last slice cut it is locked on an extension of the stop 15a by a sliding bolt 25. The bolt may be either a single or a two legged bolt. The guide hoops 18 may be flared at the top to facilitate the entrance of the knife.
