Specification of Letters Patent.

T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. NIEB- LING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Cutting-Machine; and I do declare the following to be a clear, full, and exact description of the invention, attention being called to the drawing, which accompanies this application and forms a part thereof.
This invention relates to cutting-machines and concerns more particularly a machine designed for slicing ham and meats in gen- "eral in a quick and efiicient manner to prepare them for culinary purposes or for packing.
The invention consists of the construction hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1, shows the machine in side-elevation. Fig. 2, is'atop-view of the feed table. Fig. 3, is an end-view of thistable.
The cutting. medium consists of an end provided with'a cutting edge, which by preference is serrated. .This band is supported upon fiat rimmed, vertically alined wheels 7 and 8, which are mounted upon a frame 9 with a space be tween them. One of these wheels is power for instance by a pulley 10, mounted upon the same shaft with it The bearing for the other wheel is carried in a slide 11, adjustably fitted to the frame, so that the cutting band maybe maintained properly stretched. A screw 12 is provided for this adjustment. 1313 are guides for this cutting band.
The meat, a ham for instance, as shown at 14, is supported upon a feed-device which is adjustably and movably fitted to a table 15, .so as to permit the meat to be positioned with reference to the thickness of the slice, it
is desired to obtain and to be fed thereafter to the cutting band for cutting of this slice. A slot is provided in the table through which this cutting band moves. This feeddevice consists of the adjusting slide A and of the feed-slide B upon which it is adjustably mounted.
The adjusting slide is provided with a rest a which projects vertically, from its rear end and is adapted to support the thinner or butt-end of the ham. This latter is held 'side of the adjusted, is now fed for cutting,
in place by means of a spring 16, connected to this rest a. The
at one of its free ends ham is placed by lifting the free end of this spring and by slipping the ham in below it. Pointed p1ns17 assist in holding the ham in position. This slide is adjustably mounted upon the feed slide B by a dove-tailed connection consisting of a tongue on one which is fitted to a groove in the other. In this case the tongue 18 is provided on the underadjusting slide and fitted into a complementary groove on the upper side of the feed-slide. The adjusting movement of slide A is in a direction at right angles to the plane in whichband 6 outs and is subject to a stop O, positioned on the other side of this plane, and against which themeat is moved as bestshown in the drawing. Observe also the arrow in Fig. 1. The meat so by a movement of feed-slide B, upon table 15, without disturbing the adjusting slide and in a direction parallel to the plane in which band 6 cuts, whereby the meat is taken past the blade and severed. Observe the arrow in Fig. 2. Theconnection of this slide to table 'is in a manner similar to that of slide A to it and is by a tongue on one, which is tted to a groove in the other. In this case groove 19 is in the table and tongue 21 is on the underside of the slide. The severed slice isdirected by a guide 22, curved as shown in Fig. 2, upon an off-bear belt 23 supported upon pulleys, one of which is shown below the table at 24. This support is shown in Fig. 3, and is so that the belt moves in a plane parallel to the table and with its up-' per portion substantially even per surface of the table which cessed for the purpose.
The thickness of the slice or steak to be cut off is controlled by the position of stop O with reference to the plane in which the band cuts, This position is made adjustable so as to permit cutting of slices of different thickness. F or such purpose stop O is provided with a flange c which is held to table 15 by means of headed pins or screws 25, occupying slots 26 in said flange. Said slots extend in the direction of theadjusting movement of the stop, so that these latter may be quickly moved'in the proper direction without becoming dislodged from the table to which it is held by the heads of pins 25. It

Having described my invention, I claim as newz' 1. In a cutting machine for the purpose described, the combination of a table, a cutting-blade, means causing it to move with respect to the table, a stop provided on the table, an adjusting slide to position the meat with reference to this stop, a rest projecting vertically from the rear end of this slide adapted to support the butt-end of the ham, a holding spring connected to this rest and adapted to engage said butt-end to hold it to said rest and a feed-slide movably fitted to the table to which slide this adjusting slide is fitted to feed the meat in its adjusted position for cutting.
I 2. A meat slicing machine comprising a cutting blade, a table, a feed device supported thereon so as to be-adjustable with reference to the cutting blade, a stop arranged vertically to the table to determine the thickness of the meat to be cut, a flange whereby it is held to the table so as to be adjustable with reference to the plane in which the blade cuts, a lever pivoted to the flange mentioned so as to have a movement toward or from the table, a pin provided on the underside of this lever and a series of openings provided in the table and adapted to receive this pin to hold the stop in its adjusted position.
